Control and surveillance program of the bathing areas of the Valencian Community.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency, and Ecological Transition, and specifically the General Directorate of Water, is responsible for controlling the quality of bathing water and discharges into the sea. In the development of these competences, from its Hydraulic Resources and Water Quality Planning Service, during the bathing season, a continuous control and surveillance of the quality of the bathing waters of our beaches is carried out.

The general objective of this Program is to identify, in real time, possible situations of contamination of bathing water that could cause risks to the health of users or the environment, managing their elimination, acting for this in coordination with other Departments of the Generalitat Valenciana, of the State or of the corresponding City Councils.

The bathing season in maritime bathing areas includes the period from June 1 to September 15. Throughout this period, bathing water sampling is carried out with the following frequency:

- Sampling prior to the beginning of the bathing season: carried out in the period from May 15 to 31
- fortnightly sampling in the first fortnight of June.
- weekly sampling in the second fortnight of June, July, August and the first fortnight of September.
