Specific Intervention Team for Children and Adolescents

What is the EEIIA?
The Torrevieja City Council's EEIIA is a dedicated, interdisciplinary team comprised of a psychologist, a social worker, and two social educators. It is attached to the Department of Social Welfare and subsidized by the Valencian Regional Government's Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies. It works with children and adolescents (NNyA) in Torrevieja who require psychotherapeutic intervention.
Who is it addressed to?
The EEIIA's activities are aimed at children and adolescents who are in a situation of vulnerability, risk, neglect, or who are under legal protection, as well as those around them.
Referrals may be motivated by:
- Abuse, violence and any type of mistreatment suffered or inflicted.
- Moderate or severe lack of protection against risk cases or mild lack of protection.
- Cases with open files in the protection system and whose separation of children and adolescents will be established based on the results of the intervention.
- Cases in which it has been determined that starting treatment is essential to keep children and adolescents in the family home.
- Cases in which a better family prognosis has been assessed.
- Cases in which there are young sons or daughters.
- Cases of families with newborn sons or daughters with a history of serious neglect of other children.
What do we do?
- Promote personal coping strategies and resources, self-protection, resilience factors, and relational effectiveness in the children and adolescents served.
- To enhance parenting capacity and the adequate performance of the role of the caregiver(s).
- Strengthen the relational capacity of the family or cohabitation unit, including the marital, parent-child, and fraternal relationships, and generate appropriate parenting guidelines.
- Establish networking dynamics with all the systems involved (schools, higher education institutions, health centers, USMIA, UCA, courts, etc.).
The interventions may be individual, family-based, or group-based. They will be carried out using psychosocial counseling, mediation, and psychotherapy techniques. Their purpose will be to achieve the objectives established after the assessment and diagnosis of the situation.
How do I access EEIIA?
- It is a free public service.
- Access to the EEIIA is through a referral from the Basic Primary Care Social Services of the Torrevieja City Council.
- Those wishing to request the service should contact the Social Services Department, where the child's or adolescent's situation will be reviewed and an assessment made as to whether the criteria for referral to the EEIIA are met.
