The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councilor for Sports, Diana Box, accompanied by the project manager, Carlos Brugarolas, visited the comprehensive repair works of the Sports Palace this morning. Some works that are already being executed and that will be fully completed before the month of December 2021, when the Women's Handball World Championship will begin. The total investment of this important action amounts to 5,588,710 euros.
Carlos Brugarolas stressed that it is a very ambitious project that must be executed in record time. In addition, the construction director has indicated that the Palacio de los Deportes is severely punished by the enormous use it has had on a daily basis throughout its 20 years of existence.
For his part, the mayor has indicated that with this comprehensive repair the Sports Palace will become a model facility for the use and enjoyment of all athletes from Torrevieja and that it can attract national and international competitions, such as the World Championship Handball, one of the most important events in our country in this year 2021.
Among the works that have already begun to be executed are:
-The repair of the roof and pergola at the entrance, eliminating the leaks, and which consists of eliminating all the skylights, replacing them with copper plates and cleaning up the existing ones, both on the roof and in the building to eliminate the leaks of water produced by the rains, in addition to the repair of the pergola of the entrance tower, after many years without maintenance.
-The repair of all the changing rooms to adapt them to the demands of the Women's Handball World Championship, as well as the expansion of some of them.
-One of the most important actions of the work is the closing of the expansion vessel of the covered swimming pool, removal of the tiles to waterproof it and placement of new tiles that comply with the current regulations of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), as well as the installation of new plumbing and electrical system.
-Replacement of diesel boilers with natural gas boilers, installation of a chiller for the pool heater, new air conditioning tube and replacement of the stainless steel railing of the pool steps, as well as repair of the pool railing. the stands of the Palacio de los Deportes.
-The placement of new led spotlights for the heated pool and the Sports Palace, the installation of a public address system in the Sports Palace, the installation of three video-scoreboards according to IHF regulations for the Handball World Championship, the placement of Nets for black balls, for the development of the World Championship, the installation of Wi-Fi lines (fiber optic) in the changing room area, new equipment of hangers and benches in the changing rooms, repair of the parquet, repair of seats in the stands and repositioning fire fighting system according to current regulations.
