The British colony celebrates "Poppy Day" in a solemn act

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the Councilor for International Relations, Gitte Lund, and the Vice Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Rosario Martínez, participated this morning in the ceremony held on the occasion of “Rememberance Day”, also called “Poppy Day” (Poppy Day), in tribute to all the victims of wars and terrorism, in the Church of the Immaculate, along with hundreds of residents of the English community living in Torrevieja.

This solemn and patriotic act of the British colony, which has been held annually on the 11th of the 11th month, at 11:00 am, since 1920 in all the towns and cities of Great Britain, has been organized for another year by veterans of the Royal British Legion, chaired by Gill Burden, in which veterans of the British Navy and Air Force also participate as in previous editions.

The commemorative mass for this important event has been officiated by the pastor of the Anglican Church of the town, to later make an emotional wreath in the Plaza de la Constitución in memory of those who fell in wars and terrorism.

Eduardo Dolón has highlighted the ceremonial of this act and the enormous importance of this type of events for the British community living in Torrevieja, highlighting the active participation of this community in all the cultural and social events organized by the Torrevieja City Council.
