The Councilor for Beaches and the Environment of the City Council of Torrevieja, Antonio Vidal, informs that the operators of these departments have carried out in the coastal area of the district of La Mata the removal of several tons of Cat's Claw or Knife Grass, Carpobrotus edulis (yellow flower), cataloged as an invasive plant in scientific manuals and in the lists of public administrations.

Antonio Vidal has specified that these works have been carried out in the area of the Municipal Natural Park of Molino del Agua and in the so-called Duna Cavanilles , in the heart of La Mata. Several tons of this invasive plant have been removed, in total more than 18 cubic meters of this species.

The Councilor for Beaches and the Environment has assured that these actions will continue to be carried out on time to continue conserving the native flora of our dune system in the best possible state.

In Spain, Cat's Claw is usually found in coastal areas near the beach or even on the beach itself, tolerating extreme salinity conditions. Being creeping and tolerating soils where other plants find it difficult to maintain themselves, the cat's claw has open ground to expand at dizzying speeds and quickly colonize large areas. In addition, the regrowth capacity of this invasive species is exceptional, making its eradication much more complicated .
