The special intensity of the storm that occurred in March and early April 2022, with strong winds, high rainfall and maritime storms, caused various damages to the coast of the province of Alicante in which it is necessary to intervene without delay.

For this reason, on April 11, 2022, the Secretary of State for the Environment of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge issued a Resolution, authorizing the execution of the works and actions necessary to repair the damage caused in the coast of southeastern Spain.

Among the actions proposed in the Province of Alicante is that of carrying out a recharge of sand on the Locos beach in Torrevieja, with the aim of maintaining the profile of said beach and compensating for the loss of sediment caused by the marine storm. occurred during the months of March and April of this year.

The emergency work planned to be carried out on this stretch of coast consists of carrying out a recharge of sand, provided on a dry beach, in order to improve the interannual maintenance of the profile on Los Locos beach in Torrevieja. More specifically, the action consists of acquiring 2,500 tons of sand with the same physical and chemical characteristics (color, composition, granulometry, etc.) as that used in the 2019 recharge, transporting it to Los Locos beach in trucks, depositing it , extend it and level it.

The execution of the works will be carried out with environmental monitoring that guarantees no repercussions on the terrestrial and marine environment, for which the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea has contracted the corresponding service. This action involves an approximate investment of 63,000 euros.
