The Councilor for Sports of the City Council of Torrevieja, Diana Box, together with the Torrevieja cyclist, Sandra Alonso, and the director of the campus, Juan Francisco Andreu, have presented today the first cycling campus "City of Torrevieja", which It will take place on November 11, 12 and 13. A campus that is intended for boys and girls between 8 and 16 years old, and will be directed by Juan Francisco Andreu and will have Sandra Alonso as its ambassador.

The activities will begin on Friday, November 11, with the reception of athletes at the Playas de Torrevieja hotel, the presentation of the campus and a colloquium talk.

On Saturday, November 12, the day will begin with a bike ride and later various activities will be carried out in the grounds of the Antonio Soria park and on the beach. At night, the gala ceremony will take place with catering for all attendees. The campus will finish with a bike ride on Sunday morning, followed by a farewell to campus.

The registration period will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6, and will end on September 10, via email ccsalinasetorrevieja@gmail.com and by phone 654 381 02.

In total, 50 places are offered for this campus, which will have a single price of 185 euros, which includes the three days in the hotel, with full board, equipment, monitors, insurance, etc.

Diana Box has thanked Sandra Alonso for carrying out this project in her city, and has highlighted the humility of the Torrevieja cyclist, who did not want the Campus to bear her name and yes that of "City of Torrevieja". The mayor of Sports has highlighted the present and the great future that Sandra Alonso has in women's cycling, currently being, despite her youth, one of the 10 best cyclists in the world.

For her part, Sandra Alonso has declared that she has been thinking about this project for more than a year and that she is very excited to carry it out in Torrevieja. Alonso has highlighted that it is a campus in which, in addition to bringing professional and competitive cycling closer to boys and girls, it is intended that they have fun and learn first-hand about the world of cycling, as well as promote tourism in Torrevieja .

Finally, Juan Francisco Andreu has highlighted that Torrevieja has everything to carry out a campus of this type, since it has perfect facilities for the practice of sport and, in addition, an excellent climate for the practice of this sport.

SANDRA ALONSO

Sandra Alonso is a young 23-year-old cyclist from Torrevieja, who has in her record the Spanish Pursuit Championship (2017), 3rd in the Spanish Time Trial Championship, silver medal in sub-23 road cycling; and tenth in the Paris Ronbaix.

Last Sunday he won the bronze medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games en route that is taking place in the city of Oran (Algeria). Alonso currently plays for Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling.

Starting tomorrow, training will begin to prepare for the Tour de France, which will start on July 24 from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
