Starting this coming Thursday, August 4, Parque de las Naciones will be the scene of the program of events that take place on the occasion of the festivities in honor of Sant Emigdio, after they have been restricted for the last two years

The departments of Parks and Gardens and Quality of Urban Services, directed by Carmen Gómez Candel and Sandra Sánchez respectively, have carried out the restoration of the hermitage of San Emigdio, co-patron of Torrevieja and protector against earthquakes, located in the park of the Nations.

Carmen Gómez has reported that every year exclusively painting works were carried out in the hermitage in the park, but at present it needed an extensive restoration of the walls, bars, etc. For all these reasons, the interior walls have been repaired with materials to protect the property from humidity, as well as the installation of LED lights, painted exterior walls, bars and doors. Likewise, the access benches to the hermitage have also been replaced.

The total cost of the works has amounted to approximately 6,000 euros.

Gómez Candel recalled that starting this coming Thursday, August 4, Parque de las Naciones will be the scene of the program of events that take place on the occasion of the festivities in honor of San Emigdio, after they have been restricted during the last two years.

It will be on Sunday, August 7, at 8:00 p.m., in this Hermitage of San Emigdio and also around it, when a Eucharist will be celebrated in honor of the co-patron of Torrevieja, followed by a solemn procession with the image of the saint accompanied by the band of the Musical Society "Ciudad de Torrevieja - Los Salerosos". The route will run through Calle San Policarpo, Bilbao, Santísima Trinidad, Barrio Molinos, Plaza del Calvario, Calle San Emigdio, José Hurtado Romero "El Felisia" and, again, to Calle San Policarpo to return to the Ermita del Parque de las Nations. After the procession, a fireworks display will be set off with which these popular festivities will end.
