The planting of native species begins in the Natural Park on the occasion of Arbor Day 2023

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Vidal, the mayor of Education, Ricardo Recuero, the director-conservator of the Lagunas de La Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park, Francisco Martínez, and the deputy manager from AGAMED, Gemma Cruz, has participated this morning in a planting and regeneration of trees in the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park, which is being carried out on the occasion of the celebration of Tree Day 2023. Some actions that are carried out throughout today, Tuesday, January 31, and tomorrow, Wednesday, February 1, for schoolchildren from the 14 educational centers of Torrevieja, and that is going to become one of the most participatory and important plantations in recent years in the Valencian Community.

More than 600 schoolchildren who participate in this plantation have received different informative talks during the past week to publicize the importance of ecological regeneration and the planting criteria that will be used during the sessions.

Likewise, the Natural Park educators have given these sessions prior to planting and, at the time of regeneration, the students are following the technical indications set by the park workers.

A total of 800 plants for 2.5 hectares will be planted by the students of the 14 schools in a very important area of the Natural Park with native species such as kermes oak, mastic, tamarisk, lavender, juniper, blackthorn, palmetto, santolina, Aleppo pine, buckthorn, rosemary and carob.

In order to carry out this activity, AGAMED has carried out the preparation and adaptation work for the planting space, located in the upper area of the Park, as well as relief irrigation and protectors for the plants.

Likewise, Leroy Merlin has participated in this environmental regeneration action by handing out shovels, buckets and gloves for planting trees to all participating students.

Finally, the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, has highlighted the importance of carrying out this type of activity aimed at the youngest, so that they become aware of and learn about the environmental values that the new generations must have and see first-hand how to reforest spaces and areas Greens of the municipality The mayor has indicated that these actions with all the schools in Torrevieja will have a continuity so that they are carried out every year and our children have the possibility of planting at least one tree.
