The Councilor for Commerce and Hospitality of the Torrevieja City Council, Rosario Martínez Chazarra, reports that the Secretary of State for Commerce, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union, has granted the Torrevieja City Council a grant of 1,530 ,892 euros to carry out the actions contained in the Project called: Impulse to competitiveness, innovation and modernization of the urban commercial area of Torrevieja through the implementation of an Open Shopping Center . The resolution of the concession of this important aid has been transferred to the Department of Commerce last Monday, March 13.

Rosario Martínez has highlighted that the project presented by the Torrevieja City Council for this call has five basic axes:

  1. Expenses directed to DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION : €287,000.
  2. Expenses related to TRANSFORMATION OF POINT OF SALE : €427,000.
  3. Expenses related to SUSTAINABILITY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY : €394,000.
  4. Expenses for the SUPPLY CHAIN, SENSITIVITY AND TRAINING : €15,000.
  5. And, finally, expenses for the implementation of an OPEN SHOPPING CENTER : €533,000.

The Councilor for Commerce has specified that within the first section, Digital Transformation, the development of a Market Place or installation of digital mupis stands out. Regarding the transformation of the point of sale, it involves the installation of automated ticket offices for order collection and return of online orders, adaptation to guarantee universal accessibility to commercial establishments or placement of sunshade awnings in the pedestrian streets of the Shopping Center Open.

The third section related to Sustainability and circular economy includes the purchase of zero emission vehicles, the installation of solar lighting in public furniture or the installation of two reverse vending points for discounts in exchange for waste, as well as the creation of new landscaped, accessible and pet-friendly rest areas.

Rosario Martínez has declared that "we are convinced that, with the implementation of this project, Torrevieja will advance in terms of commercial innovation towards the smart cities model". Likewise, La Plasa will be provided with technological content, as a continuation of the remodeling project begun, promoting a more environmentally and economically sustainable business offer, in accordance with the 2030 agenda.

Among all the agents framed within this Open Shopping Center and, hand in hand, with the main associations of the city sector, APYMECO, the Association of Hospitality Companies of Torrevieja and Comarca and the merchants of La Plasa , it is intended that the commercial offer of our city becomes a benchmark in Vega Baja and in the province of Alicante.

The mayor of Commerce has indicated that a public participation period will open next week, in which more than 60 selected city establishments, whether fashion, food, accessories, restaurants or services, will be interviewed in order to have first-hand the precise information to determine the form of management that will have to be chosen, which is the most appropriate and beneficial for all, the administration and our business fabric.

Finally, it should be noted that the Ministry of Commerce has estimated 98% of the proposal presented by the Torrevieja City Council, which was €1,913,615; being one of the 50 concessionary cities in all of Spain, ahead of Valencia or Barcelona; and being, in addition, the second most valued technological project in the Valencian Community, only behind Castellón. In this way, Rosario Martínez has indicated that "we hope that this adventure that we launched and that has APYMECO, is as successful as the extraordinary versions of the Bonoconsumo, which have positioned the government team of Eduardo Dolón as the most committed to local commerce traditional since forever.
