The works, which will be carried out by AGAMED, could begin in 15 days and the execution budget amounts to 524,300 euros (VAT included) and the period of execution of the works will be about five months. With this expansion, there will be a greater storage capacity ( 14,000 m3) for water from the existing cross drainage works, minimizing continuous flooding in the Doña Inés urbanization and on the N-332 highway

The General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, has authorized AGAMED the "expansion of the rainwater lamination pond adjacent to the N-332 in the municipality of Torrevieja", in the Doña Inés Urbanization, one of the areas most affected by torrential rains.

It should be noted that the General Directorate of Highways has taken almost 5 months to approve the authorization for the execution of these important and necessary rainwater works in Doña Inés. However, the Government team of the Torrevieja City Council has expressed its satisfaction with this authorization, "valid for a period of 18 months" counted from the notification of the granting of the authorization, for which the works will begin and end within these deadlines.

These works, which will be tendered and awarded in a few days by AGAMED, could begin in two weeks and the execution budget amounts to 524,300 euros (VAT included), with the execution period of the works being about five months. The surface area of the rolling pond to be built is 4,533 square meters and the average depth is 3.2 meters.

This is the expansion of the rainwater lamination pond on the left bank of the N-332 highway, in a public domain area, which receives water from the lamination pond attached to the Los Mercados site and from the ditch from the east side of the N-332 road.

Given the low storage capacity (approximately 2,000 m3) in the existing rolling pond, even in medium-intensity rains, the pond fills and overflows, causing flooding in the Doña Inés urbanization, sometimes requiring cutting traffic, and making it impossible for residents to access and exit their homes, as is happening these days.

In order to minimize flooding in this area and given the magnitude of the flow rates towards the area where the rolling pond is located, it was considered necessary to expand the existing rolling pond, so that it has a greater capacity for storage (it will increase to 14,000 m3) for the water coming from the existing transversal drainage works. In this way, flooding in the urbanization and on the N-332 road will be minimized.
