The Councilor for Sports of the Torrevieja City Council, Diana Box Alonso, reports that the “Ciudad de Torrevieja” International Bowling Open, very popular among the growing masses of national and international players, will be held for the eleventh consecutive year at Ozone Bowling Torrevieja, between on September 16 and 24. This year, it is the most international tournament held in Spain and at the same time an official tournament of the annual European Bowling Tour. Simultaneously, in the same bowling alley, another tournament for players over 50 years of age will also be held, the III Torrevieja Senior Open.

The qualifying phase of the Open Ciudad de Torrevieja will end on Saturday, September 23. The format is six games, played in the American style, that is, alternating between two courts. Participants can re-enroll without limit to improve their result. Players receive an extra handicap of 8 pins per game.

The final phase between the first 32 qualifiers will take place throughout Sunday, September 24, culminating with a single-game matchup phase between the eight best scorers. The player who in the end has the highest total score will receive a check for 3,000 euros and a trophy. This year, the total cache amounts to 13,800 euros. Among the latest champions of the Open Ciudad de Torrevieja there are three Finns, a Spaniard, a Norwegian, a Venezuelan and a Belgian.

In addition to the open category, for players with averages of 190 or more, the tournament also has two lower categories: Category B (averages between 189.99 and 170) and Category C (averages below 170). In addition, for the third time in a row, the Torrevieja Senior Open will be held, a separate but simultaneous tournament of six games for players who have turned 50 years old. Its final phase will be played on Friday, September 22, in the morning.

During the tournament, admission to the bowling alley will be free at all times. The last two days of qualifying, Friday and Saturday, as well as all the finals will be broadcast live on YouTube. Ozone Bowling Torrevieja also has an online scoring service. The corresponding links can be found on the Facebook profile of the organizers, Club Euro Bowling Torrevieja (@eurobowlingtorrevieja), and at bowl4u.com/eventos.

More than 70 percent of registrations for the two tournaments come from outside Spain, with a typical stay in a hotel or tourist apartment being between four and six nights. At the moment, the list of participants includes, in addition to Spaniards, eighteen nationalities, five more than in 2022: Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Slovakia, United States, Estonia, Finland, France, Holland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom United, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and Venezuela. Consequently, the tournament brings considerable tourist value to Torrevieja.
