The President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, and the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, signed this morning the agreement of expression of intent for the renovation of the Ice Factory building and a new annex building, as part of the overall project in the area surrounding the Eras de la Sal and the Museum of the Sea and Salt. The result of this agreement is a financial contribution of €2 million from the Generalitat Valenciana to this project.

Carlos Mazón has pointed out that the Generalitat's budget for this fiscal year 2025 has allocated 100,000 euros to begin the restoration and expansion of the Ice Factory, which will increase in value as the various phases of construction progress until reaching two million euros, planned for 2026 and 2027.

The head of the Consell has announced that, through the Department of Culture, an additional 3 million euros will be provided for the Eras de la Sal complex, of which 200,000 euros have already been allocated in the budget for 2025.

The tender document for the renovation of the ice factory building, the annex building, and the adaptation of the surrounding area was approved today by JGL.

The Local Government Board of Torrevieja City Council has today approved the tender for the renovation of the Ice Factory building, the annex building, and the adaptation of the surrounding area of the Salt Eras. This time, the tender will be carried out under Lot 6 of the Framework Agreement for the contracting of building and urban development works.

The base tender budget for these works amounts to €7,176,503.32 (VAT included), with an expected completion period of 18 months. The deadline for submitting bids via a framework agreement is 30 days from the date of publication.

The project is based on the renovation of the Ice Factory, which will refurbish two floors of the building, preserving the shape of the existing roof and skylight. A new annex building will be integrated, consisting of a ground floor and three floors, which will be connected to the previous building by a central corridor between the two. This will include a tourist viewing platform overlooking the integration of the Sea and Salt Museum into the urban layout with the panoramic backdrop of Torrevieja Bay. The result of this design is the Ice Factory building, which is located on a 299 m2 plot with the 303 m2 annex, resulting in a total built area of 2,436.70 m2.

The ice factory will house Torrevieja's new tourist office.

In terms of use, it will be highly functional, based on two distinct spaces. On the one hand, the Ice Factory will house the city's main Tourist Office, completely renovated and modernized in both space and technology, and will share space with the reception point for the Sea and Salt Museum. The annex building will house the Tourism Department's offices, along with the Center for Innovation and Tourism Management, and represents "a clear commitment to the modernization, digitalization, and research of our tourism model," explained the mayor.

It will also house other administrative offices, such as those responsible for managing the new museum, as well as the International Residents Assistance Office (OARI), the Migrant Assistance Office (PANGEA), the productive sector areas, and other municipal offices that are currently dispersed, but which "we intend to unify, since this building has a very clear vocation as an information point, and it makes sense to locate certain municipal offices there to optimize citizen service," added Mayor Eduardo Dolón.
