The Torrevieja City Councilor for Public Health, Rosa Cañón , accompanied by Laura Lorenzo , a technician assigned to the Department of Public Health, presented the Health School project this morning. This is an initiative of the department as part of its commitment to bringing knowledge of various health topics to our citizens in a flexible and accessible way.
The first cycle will take place on May 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja.
The Health School was created as a health education and outreach program open to the entire community: children, youth, adults, and seniors. The program is organized into thematic cycles, each focusing on a specific aspect of health. It will be divided into two parts: a 30-minute talk and a second 20-30 minute session for attendees' questions and concerns.
Dr. Carlos González is the first speaker, who will discuss myths surrounding children's nutrition. This is due to the proliferation of opinions and advice about children's nutrition, unsupported by scientific evidence, that are widely disseminated on social media, forums, and social networks. This phenomenon generates confusion and uncertainty among families when it comes to feeding their little ones, who often don't know which advice to trust.
Therefore, it is essential to provide families and education professionals with rigorous, up-to-date, and practical information that enables them to make informed decisions regarding child nutrition.
Scientific evidence indicates that proper nutrition during childhood is key to healthy growth, promotes optimal cognitive development, and contributes to the prevention of future diseases.
