Torrevieja will offer the first degree in Tourism Business Management from the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón; the Rector of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, Juan José Ruiz; the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Development Cooperation, Rosa María Martínez Espinosa; the Manager of AGAMED, Jorge Ballesta; and the project architect, Francisco Juárez, visited the construction site of the building that will house the Torrevieja University Headquarters and the AGAMED offices.
This new building, located on the central Concepción Street, has a €4.8 million investment from AGAMED and is 60% complete. The entire building is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year, and once equipped, it will open in the first quarter of 2026. This infrastructure will revert to the people of Torrevieja by the end of 2028, when the building rights expire.
All the services that AGAMED is to provide, as well as the administration, technical office, and management offices, will be located on the ground and first floors of this unique building. The Torrevieja University Campus will have full availability of the second, third, and attic floors upon opening.
It is a cutting-edge, functional, and perfectly adaptable building to emerging teaching needs. It is also sustainable, using natural resources as its main focus, making it a highly efficient building that generates its own electricity for self-consumption using photovoltaic panels, regulates said consumption based on the time of day, and controls water consumption using saving devices.
The mayor emphasized that Torrevieja needs to continue its city project with the challenge of having this University Campus, where university education can be offered, located in the heart of the city and serving as a central element of educational and social life, and, by extension, revitalizing our streets, also from the perspective of reactivating the commercial and hospitality sector.
A UNIVERSITY SITE WITH CAPACITY FOR MORE THAN 400 STUDENTS
The architect who drafted the preliminary project, Francisco Juárez, has announced that the future building, which will have capacity for 400 students and 50 Agamed employees, will be divided into two completely separate spaces.
AGAMED DEPENDENCIES:
-GROUND FLOOR: Will feature an interactive area, offices, customer service, and a work area. 24 workstations.

The UMH will implement the first official degree in management of tourism businesses and activities in Torrevieja.
During this site visit, the rector of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, Juan José Ruiz, announced that for the 2026/2027 academic year, Torrevieja will offer its first Bachelor's Degree in Management of Tourism Business Activity. This newly created degree, both in-person and online, offers dual and bilingual (Spanish and English) training and will have 50 students in its first year.
This degree aims to address the need to train professionals in various fields of the tourism sector, enabling them to perform the technical and operational roles associated with the profession, as well as those involved in coordinating, managing, and leading tourism businesses and activities.
The curriculum of this new Bachelor's Degree in Management and Administration of Tourism Business Activities provides training in all areas related to the operational management of tourism, not only acquiring a series of specific skills in different related disciplines but also a series of generic capabilities that will facilitate the employment of graduates in the tourism industry. Likewise, this dual degree is aligned with the new labor demands currently being made by the industry, such as digitalization, AI, new forms of communication, human team management, and more.
TWO CHAIRS WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN TORREVIEJA
Likewise, the Rector of the UMH has also announced that Torrevieja will also have two chairs for the 2026/2027 academic year: a Chair of Habanera and a Chair of Gastronomy.
Finally, Eduardo Dolón emphasized that the integration of the three universities into the Torrevieja University Campus (University of Alicante, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, and UNED) demonstrates that it is possible to collaborate jointly and be open to all of them to provide the best offerings and services to students in our city. Currently, Torrevieja City Council invests more than €500,000 in the agreements it has with these three universities.
