The works have an execution period of 18 months and an investment of 6,458,853 euros (VAT included). After the demolition works, the entire area will be conditioned, a new temporary fence will be installed and the modular construction sheds will be placed and the material will be stockpiled, all assisted by the archaeology team hired by the City Council in accordance with the requirements set by the Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana.

Yesterday morning, Tuesday, July 22nd, work began on the rehabilitation of the Ice Factory building with the demolition of the historic "Salinas Group of Companies" and its adaptation to the surroundings of the Salt Eras and the Museum of the Sea and Salt. Following the demolition work, the entire area will be reconditioned in the coming days, with the installation of a new temporary fence and the placement of modular construction sheds and the stockpiling of materials, all assisted by the archaeology team hired by the City Council in accordance with the requirements set by the Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that over the coming weeks, construction work will continue on the building attached to the Ice Factory, without affecting traffic on this important road into and out of the city.

In terms of use, the new building will be highly functional, featuring two distinct spaces. The Ice Factory will house the city's Tourist Office, completely renovated and modernized in both space and technology, and will share space with the reception area for the Sea and Salt Museum.

The annex building will house the Department of Tourism, including the Center for Innovation and Tourism Management, and represents a clear commitment to the modernization, digitalization, and research of our tourism model. It could also house other municipal areas, such as the new museum's management departments, the International Residents Assistance Office (OARI), the Migrant Assistance Office (PANGEA), and other currently dispersed departments to optimize citizen service.

The overall budget for the works amounts to almost €6.5 million, and the completion period is 18 months. It is worth noting that the Valencian Government has allocated €100,000 for the 2025 fiscal year to begin the restoration and expansion of the Ice Factory, while for the 2026 and 2027 budgets, the Valencian Government's investment will amount to €2 million.
