The 4th edition of the "City of Torrevieja" Academic Excellence Awards has been announced.

The City Council allocates a total of 80,000 euros to recognize the effort, dedication, personal improvement, and the best academic records of Torrevieja students from Primary to university and higher education.

The application period opens today, Saturday, August 30, and applications can be made through the Torrevieja City Council's Electronic Office.

Torrevieja City Council, through the Department of Youth, has approved the Specific Bases and Call for Entries for the “City of Torrevieja” Academic Excellence Awards – IV Edition, 2025, corresponding to the 2023/2024 academic year, with a total award of 80,000 euros.

With this municipal initiative, now established as a benchmark annual event, the Torrevieja council opens a public space to recognize the effort, dedication, and personal achievement of students who have distinguished themselves with their outstanding academic results, from primary education to university and higher education.

TYPES AND AMOUNTS OF AWARDS

The awards are divided into two specific calls, adapted to the different educational levels:

-Primary Education: €150

-Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO): €300

-Intermediate Vocational Training: €450

-High school: €700

-Higher Vocational Training: €1,000

-University Degree Studies: €1,400

-Higher Studies in Artistic Education (Higher Degree): €1,400

In all cases, the winners will also receive a diploma in recognition of their merits.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND

Students who can prove they have obtained at least the following average grades in their academic record for the 2023/2024 academic year will be eligible for these awards: 9 points in Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education, and Baccalaureate; 8.5 in Intermediate and Advanced Vocational Training; and 8 in University Studies and Higher Artistic Education. These grades must appear on the official academic certificate issued by the corresponding educational institution.

A COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND THE FUTURE

Youth Councilor Domingo Paredes emphasized that these awards reflect " the City Council's firm commitment to fostering a culture of hard work, valuing the talent of young Torrevieja residents, and highlighting academic excellence as a driving force for progress in our city."

Paredes also noted that " this initiative, which began in 2021, has been consolidated thanks to the budgetary support that is steadily consolidated in our budgets, as well as all the aid and incentives that the governing team recovered in the municipal accounts, thus guaranteeing its continuity and permanence for future editions."

CALL AND PARTICIPATION

Students who completed their studies in the 2023/2024 academic year at public or subsidized educational centers in Torrevieja, in the case of non-university education, or at official centers of the Spanish university and higher education system, in the case of higher education, may apply for these awards, provided they meet the requirements established in the call for applications.

The application period opens today, Saturday, August 30th, after the call for applications was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante (BOP). Applications can be submitted through the Torrevieja City Council's Electronic Office.
