After the resounding applause for the directors and their batons, it's time for the clapperboards and camera shots. The speaker, Carlos Escolano, will lead five sessions of the course entitled: “Knowing How to Watch Film: A Workshop on Appreciating Cinematic Language.”

The senior citizens enrolled in this course will gather in the auditorium of UNED Torrevieja. On Tuesday, February 3rd, the course will address the questions: Is cinema a language? How does a film communicate? Following this, on the 10th and 17th, the film director will discuss the construction of space and time, first focusing on camera shots and movements, and then on editing as a generator of meaning. A week later, on February 25th, the director will explain film genres, and the course will conclude on Tuesday, March 3rd, by outlining the trends in contemporary cinema.

In addition to these classroom sessions, a sixth session has been added, which will serve as a practical example of the theoretical classes. Escolano directed the film *A salto de mata* , which will be screened on Sunday, February 8, at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The feature film stars José Luis Zerón alongside Normando S. Javaloyes. It is a loose adaptation of *A salto me mata* , the book of diaries by the Orihuela-born poet Zerón (a finalist for the 2025 Valencian Critics' Prize). Its main characteristic is that it was filmed entirely in the Vega Baja region, with the city of Orihuela, the author's birthplace and current residence, playing a particularly prominent role.
