The City Council awards and pays 65,000 euros in scholarships to 85 local athletes
The Councillor for Sports, Diana Box Alonso, reports that the Torrevieja City Council has awarded and paid the sports grants corresponding to the year 2025 to a total of 85 local athletes, thus consolidating its firm commitment to the promotion and development of sports in the municipality.
The awarding of these grants was approved by Decree of the Councillor for Economy and Finance, dated December 22, 2025, culminating a technical evaluation process carried out in accordance with the regulations governing the call for applications. A total of 98 applications were submitted, of which 85 were selected after meeting the established requirements and passing the corresponding evaluation.
The total amount allocated to these scholarships has reached 65,000 euros, an investment that represents direct support for the effort, perseverance and sporting achievements of athletes from Torrevieja.
Diana Box highlighted that, in addition to resolving the call within the established deadlines, the City Council has demonstrated agile and efficient management by making the payment of the aid effective on January 26, 2026, barely a month after its concession.
This speed in administrative processing allows athletes to have access to financial resources when they need them most, thus facilitating the coverage of expenses derived from training, travel, equipment and participation in official competitions.
ELEVEN SPORTS DISCIPLINES WITH SCHOLARSHIPS
The scholarships awarded cover a total of eleven sports, reflecting the diversity and strength of the local sports fabric.
Rowing leads the number of beneficiaries with 28 athletes, followed by beach handball with 13, and rhythmic gymnastics with 9. Sailing, with 8 scholarship recipients; skating, with 7; and athletics, with 6, also stand out.
The list is completed by judo, with 4 beneficiaries; swimming, fin swimming and windsurfing, with 3 athletes each of these modalities; and tennis, with 1 beneficiary.

With this action, the Councillor for Sports indicates, the City Council reaffirms its firm commitment to grassroots and competitive sport, supporting local talent and promoting essential values such as self-improvement, discipline, effort and teamwork.
