The City Council takes a step towards the integrated Vocational Training center (CIFP) of Torrevieja
The Torrevieja City Council today approved an agreement that brings the city closer to its future Integrated Public Vocational Training Center (CIPFP). The item on the agenda includes the revocation of the unexecuted portion of the delegation of powers under the Edificant Plan corresponding to the IES Number 1 Libertas secondary school, a decision supported by three independent technical reports from the Valencian Regional Government and formally requested by the Regional Ministry of Education itself.
A TECHNICAL, NOT POLITICAL, DECISION
The General Directorate of Educational Infrastructure, the General Directorate of Vocational Training, and the Municipal Education Inspectorate all agree on their assessment: the expansion of the vocational training building at IES Libertas no longer meets the actual needs of Torrevieja. The reason is clear. The Valencian Regional Government has confirmed the construction of a Public Integrated Vocational Training Center in the city, a dedicated facility with greater capacity and a comprehensive range of educational programs that no partial expansion can match.
The General Directorate of Vocational Training was explicit in its May 2025 report, ruling out any new vocational training infrastructure in the municipality precisely because the CIPFP is on its way.
The delegation of powers has achieved its first objective. The City Council has fully completed the structural repairs to Block 1 of the IES Libertas school, with €318,213.38 certified. Today's agreement is the necessary administrative step for the Generalitat (Valencian regional government) to pay the City Council for these works.
THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING THAT TORREVIEJA NEEDS
A CIPFP (Integrated Vocational Training Center) is not a temporary solution; it is a center designed entirely for Vocational Training, with its own infrastructure, equipment, and training programs. For a city with the demographic pressure and educational needs of Torrevieja, it represents a significant leap forward compared to any other alternative.
The Education Inspectorate also points out that the most urgent priority at IES Libertas is addressing the demand for secondary school places, with a documented shortage of 77 places in the first year and 37 in the fourth. Today's agreement allows the school's resources to be directed towards this real need.
The Councillor Delegate for Education of the Torrevieja City Council, Ricardo Recuero, informed the Management Team of the IES Libertas and the AMPA of this decision before its submission to the Plenary.
