New actions in the Aromatic Park to reinforce its landscape and environmental value
The Parks and Gardens Department of Torrevieja City Council has carried out various improvement and maintenance works in the Aromatic Park, one of the city's most unique and recognizable green spaces. Covering an area of nearly 70,000 square meters, this park is a true showcase of Mediterranean flora and a meeting place for residents, visitors, athletes, and nature lovers, thanks to its paths, rest areas, and its privileged location next to the natural surroundings of La Mata.
Among the actions carried out, the planting of new Mediterranean aromatic species such as thyme, lavender and rosemary stands out, three plants closely linked to the landscape of our territory.
Thyme ( Thymus vulgaris ) is one of the most representative species of the Mediterranean scrubland. It stands out for its intense aroma and its great resistance to high temperatures and water scarcity. Furthermore, it is a plant highly valued by bees and other pollinating insects during its flowering season.
Lavender ( Lavandula angustifolia ), renowned for its distinctive purple hues and pleasant fragrance, adds significant ornamental value to the park. Its blooms attract numerous pollinators and contribute to creating visually appealing landscapes for much of the year.
Rosemary ( Rosmarinus officinalis ), besides being one of the best-known aromatic plants in the Mediterranean basin, is notable for its hardiness and its ability to thrive even during periods of severe drought. Its flowering also provides an important food source for beneficial insects.
Alongside these plantings, irrigation systems have been installed and improved in different areas of the park with the aim of promoting the proper development of the vegetation and optimizing the use of water, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable management of this green space.
In addition, the gardening teams have carried out pruning, cleaning, clearing, and maintenance work in the green areas surrounding the homes near the park. This work improves the overall appearance of the area, promotes healthy vegetation growth, and maintains optimal conditions for both residents and park users.
These actions are part of the commitment of the Department of Parks and Gardens and a commitment to species adapted to the Mediterranean climate, as well as to increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly management.
The Aromatic Park continues to solidify its position as one of the city's major green spaces, enjoyed by countless people. It's also a place where nature, biodiversity, and outdoor recreation come together to offer residents and visitors a unique environment year-round.
