The project to create a new Local Police station in the heart of the city center has been approved by the Local Governing Board.

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved this morning the basic and execution project for the adaptation of the new Local Police station in the urban center, which will be located at number 17 on Joaquín Chapaprieta street.

The project has a base execution budget of 785,105.48 euros (VAT included), and will have a planned period of four months, which will begin counting from the signing of the verification report of the layout and the start of the works.

The councillor secretary of the Local Governing Board, Federico Alarcón, has reported that the opening of these facilities responds to the objective of the Governing team to continue reinforcing citizen security and increase the preventive police presence in one of the areas with the highest pedestrian traffic, commercial activity and concentration of people in Torrevieja.

The location of the building will allow for greater police coverage in the city center, the port area and the seafront promenades, spaces that register a large influx of residents and visitors not only during the summer, but also throughout the year.

Federico Alarcón highlighted that “the creation of this new station will bring the Local Police even closer to the citizens, improve response capacity and increase preventive police presence in the urban center of Torrevieja.”

A STRATEGIC LOCATION IN THE CITY CENTER

The selection and rental of the premises on Joaquín Chapaprieta Street is due to its strategic location, deemed suitable by both municipal technical reports and the Local Police department. This location will facilitate the deployment of officers and allow for a more accessible service in an area of significant residential, commercial, administrative, tourist, and leisure activity.

The building is in good condition, so it will not be necessary to modify its structure, volume, height, or floor area. The work will focus primarily on reorganizing and adapting the interior spaces, renovating the facilities, and incorporating the necessary equipment to meet the operational and citizen service needs of the Local Police. The new station will also allow for the reorganization and optimization of municipal police resources and free up space to create new areas and services in the main facilities.

This action is also part of the growth the Local Police force has experienced in recent years and the new recruits planned for the coming years. This increase in the number of officers necessitates expanding the available facilities and providing the police force with more modern, functional installations strategically located throughout the city.

MORE THAN 735 SQUARE METERS DISTRIBUTED OVER THREE FLOORS

The building has a total constructed area of 735.65 square meters, distributed between a basement, ground floor, and first floor. The building's layout will clearly differentiate the spaces open to the public from the areas reserved for the internal operations of the Local Police.

The basement level , with a constructed area of 275.10 square meters, will be primarily used for internal operations, training, and officer preparation. It will include a briefing room for operational meetings, training sessions, transmitting instructions, and coordinating personnel. It will also contain a multipurpose room, two offices, two general changing rooms, an accessible changing room, a storage room, and utility rooms.

The ground floor , with 218.75 square meters of floor space, will serve as the main entrance to the station and will house the services for the public. It will include a lobby, reception area, public service area, administrative area, office, and restrooms. The layout will allow for proper access control and separation of public areas from internal workspaces. The public service area will offer adequate privacy, accessibility, lighting, and acoustics to provide a comfortable, safe, and confidential service.

The first floor , with 241.80 square meters of floor space, will be primarily used for management, coordination, meetings, and security functions. It will house four offices, a meeting room, a 48-square-meter security room, an accessible restroom, and various technical rooms. The security room will be equipped with the necessary electrical, communications, security, lighting, ventilation, and climate control systems for the equipment and workstations installed there.

COMPLETE RENOVATION OF SPACES AND FACILITIES

The works will include preliminary interior dismantling and demolition, removal of partitions, wall coverings, woodwork, and installations incompatible with the new layout, and the construction of new enclosures and partitions. The project includes the installation of glass partitions in the offices and administrative areas, the renovation of flooring, wall coverings, paintwork, woodwork, and suspended ceilings, as well as a complete refurbishment of restrooms, showers, and changing rooms.

The electrical and lighting installations, plumbing, sanitation, heating, and ventilation systems will also be renovated. The new facilities will be equipped with data and communications networks, security systems, access control, video surveillance, and fire protection systems.

The project will be completed with the installation of furniture and fixed equipment, lockers and benches in the changing rooms, signage, lettering and corporate image of the Local Police, in addition to a surface treatment of the facade using vinyl or graphic cladding.

Federico Alarcón pointed out that “these facilities will provide officers with suitable spaces to carry out their work and, at the same time, will offer citizens a closer, more accessible police service adapted to the needs of a continuously growing city.”
