"Nothing ever happens here," a play to raise awareness about trafficking and sexual exploitation of women.

The Torrevieja City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare and Equality, is organizing a performance of the play "Nothing Ever Happens Here" by the Teatro Sin Papeles company on Saturday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center. This social theater production aims to raise awareness about the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation and the various forms of violence perpetrated against women.

The play is inspired by the so-called Carioca Case and brings to the stage a reality marked by the sexual exploitation of more than 300 women, as well as the existing difficulties in prosecuting this type of crime and adequately protecting its victims.

Under the direction of Moisés Mato, the production stars actresses Olga Compte and Susana Álvarez, who will bring to the public a story built from a social perspective and committed to the defense of women's rights.

A WORK INSPIRED BY THE CARIOCA CASE

“Nothing Ever Happens Here” stems from the so-called Carioca Case, an extensive investigation into a prostitution and sexual exploitation ring. The book's introduction itself summarizes the scale of what happened with a powerful statement: “More than 300 victims of sexual exploitation, not a single culprit,” placing the affected women front and center and prompting reflection on the mechanisms of exploitation and the difficulties victims may encounter when reporting and accessing justice.

The show draws on documentation related to the case, as well as testimonies and journalistic materials, to construct a stage proposal that invites the viewer to reflect on a reality that often remains hidden or socially normalized.

The plot unfolds primarily from the relationship between two women, showing from different perspectives the personal and social consequences of sexual exploitation and focusing especially on the victims.

Through a direct and theatrical approach, Teatro Sin Papeles (Theater Without Papers) brings to the public issues such as the vulnerability of women victims of trafficking, the structures that facilitate their exploitation, the fear of reporting, and the need for effective protection and support mechanisms. The play also incorporates a perspective on solidarity and support among women, making the encounter between its protagonists one of the central elements of the production.

Teatro Sin Papeles is a company linked to social theatre that develops stage projects focused especially on issues related to migration, inequality, discrimination and situations of vulnerability.

The initiative has the institutional participation of the Torrevieja City Council, the Valencian Public System of Social Services, the State Pact against Gender Violence and the Ministry of Equality.
