Torrevieja City Council is putting out to tender the contract for the co-design and renaturalization of the schoolyards of El Acequión and Inmaculada.

The Local Governing Board of the Torrevieja City Council has approved this morning the specifications that will govern the tender for the “Contract for co-design services, drafting of the project, technical direction and socio-environmental activation of the school playgrounds of the CEIP Inmaculada and El Acequión - P3.O7 of the Torrevieja Integrated Action Plan”, an initiative that proposes the transformation of the playgrounds of these centers from an environmental, educational and participatory perspective, making their users involved in the definition of the spaces that they will later use.

The contract has a base tender budget of 230,752.17 euros and is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the framework of the Multiregional Operational Programme for Spain ERDF 2021-2027, within the Integrated Local Development Strategy (EDIL Plan).

The action, which corresponds to Operation 7 of the PAI, aims to comprehensively address the process that will allow progress in the renaturalization of the school playgrounds of CEIP El Acequión and CEIP Inmaculada, incorporating from the beginning the participation of the respective educational communities and their environment.

Thus, the contract is not limited to the development of technical plans, but also establishes a co-design process for the future courtyards, in which the students of both schools will play a key role. This process will include a preliminary assessment of the spaces, the technical management of the future construction work, and various educational, environmental, and outreach activities aimed at promoting the use of the renaturalized courtyards.

TECHNICAL AND SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY

The contract comprises a set of inseparable and complementary services. First, a technical and socio-environmental assessment will be carried out on the playgrounds of CEIP El Acequión and CEIP Inmaculada, as well as their surrounding areas. This study will determine their physical, environmental, and social condition, including existing infrastructure, climatic conditions, vegetation, and the needs of different stakeholder groups. Its findings will form the basis for the subsequent participatory process and the proposals for renaturalization.

One of the central elements will be the participatory and co-design process, which will involve the educational community and the surrounding neighborhoods of both schools, paying particular attention to student participation. The objective will be to identify existing needs and jointly define and validate the proposals that will serve as the basis for transforming these spaces.

Based on the results obtained, the basic and detailed design plans for each center will be drawn up. These documents will incorporate the conclusions of the participatory process and all the necessary documentation for the subsequent tendering of the works, in accordance with applicable regulations and the requirements associated with European co-financing.

The contract also includes the subsequent Project Management and Health and Safety Coordination of the renaturalization works. This service will encompass the technical monitoring of the works, control of their execution and deadlines, measurements and certifications, resolution of any issues, and preparation of the necessary documentation until the works are accepted, in addition to any actions required during the warranty period.

The intervention will continue once the physical actions of the corresponding works contract have been carried out, through a socio-environmental revitalization program of the renaturalized courtyards, which will include educational activities adapted to the students and training actions aimed at the teachers, with the purpose of incorporating the new spaces into the daily activity of the centers as pedagogical and environmental resources, also favoring the continuity of their use and enjoyment once the contract is completed.

The project also includes the organization of three closing and dissemination events. Two will take place in the schools themselves, and the third will be open to the general public. These events will provide an opportunity to present the process, the actions taken, and their results, as well as contribute to the public dissemination of the project and to fulfilling the communication and visibility obligations associated with ERDF funding.
