The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the councilor for Quality of Urban Services, Sandra Sánchez, accompanied by the manager of AGAMED, Jorge Ballesta and the deputy manager, Gemma Cruz, have met this morning with the representatives of the residents of the Torreta Florida urbanization, to inform them of the upcoming start of the rainwater works that are going to be undertaken in this area.

The mayor has indicated that with this action he fulfills the commitment of the Government team with the residents of this urbanization and has announced that the works are already being tendered and will begin to be executed at the end of August, with the first of the three planned infrastructures, coinciding with the possible torrential rains in autumn. Likewise, during the first quarter of 2022 the other two phases of these sanitation works will be carried out.

This important action seeks to resolve the lack of capacity of the Sanitation Network in the area, which in specific episodes of torrential rains also collects these rainwater and, therefore, makes it difficult for the network to perform its function correctly, with the problems that This also affects the residents of the area.

In order to carry out this action, the AGAMED Board approved in May the advancement of the Investment Plan funds amounting to 2,447,851 euros. The works include the execution of rainwater collectors on Jorge Manrique street that collect rainwater and drive it to a laminating basin where it will be stored so that, progressively, it is sent to the treatment plant. These collectors will allow the creation of a separative network, in such a way that the sewerage network is not in charge of collecting rainwater and there are no sizing problems in the facilities. The amount of this action amounts to 759,881 euros. Likewise, this laminating basin will store the water in order to send it progressively to the treatment plant, so that it is able to treat all the water it receives, purifying and reusing it.

In parallel, a 5,000 m3 storm tank will be built in the area between Vía Verde and Avenida de las Urracas, to collect rainwater in sub-basin 13, located in basin C8 “Oeste CN332”, and that it has an investment of 1,184,327 euros. The stored water will be sent after the rains to the sewerage network, for subsequent purification and reuse.

A third and final action will be the execution of a pumping and impulsion station for the collection of rainwater in the Clarín street roundabout, with an investment of 503,642 euros. This pumping and impulsion station will be able to transport rainwater avoiding flooding at the lowest quota points. To fill the station, it will be necessary to build a network of collectors and scuppers located along Calle Clarín.

All these actions are intended to control the water that arrives in episodes of torrential rain from basins up to the Torreta Florida urbanization, in such a way that the new infrastructures are capable of collecting the water and storing it for later purification.
