). Yesterday morning, the Eras de la Sal monumental complex received a visit from the technical team of the Territorial Directorate for Culture and Heritage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana in Alicante, made up of José Antonio López Mira , Head of the Service; José Luis Simón García, Technical Archaeologist; Rosario Berjón Ayuso, Architect, and Luis Pablo Martínez Sanmartín, Inspector of Movable Heritage.

Accompanied by the Councilor for Culture of the City Council of Torrevieja, Antonio Quesada, and by the General Director of Urban Planning, Projects and Infrastructures and Basic Services, Víctor Costa; The archaeologist in charge of the excavation work in the Eras de la Sal, José Ramón Ortega Pérez, with the general coordinator of the project, Vicent Esteban Chapapría, have seen first-hand the work that has been carried out in recent months.

In the first place, the technical team of the Territorial Directorate has been able to assess the results of the excavations that have been carried out in the Eras since October. They have highlighted that with these works the monumental complex has been known in depth and the bases are laid, together with the other studies undertaken, to define the interventions for the implementation of the Sea and Salt Museum project. The works have allowed to discover the original existing pavements in the Eras, composed of rock slabs of a magnificent workmanship.

They have also received explanations in relation to the historical construction procedures that were used to start this monumental complex, which has a special identity value for Torrevieja and an extraordinary historical and social heritage value.

Torrevieja has been linked from its origin to salt and the sea. The Eras de la Sal, the historic salt storage and loading facilities, began to be built in the last quarter of the 18th century. The complex is located in the urban center of Torrevieja and forms a work of port engineering and unique architecture that was in operation until 1958. It can be considered associated with the origins of the city and with a very relevant role today in the cultural sphere as it is held in numerous cultural events, such as the International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony. They have also had the opportunity to visit the work in progress in the old Ice Factory, recently acquired by the City Council of Torrevieja, which will be integrated into the project of the complex.

The technicians of the Territorial Directorate have underlined the importance of the values of the site and of the studies underway, pointing out that the correct path is being followed, which must mark the definition of the interventions of such a special project for the city, the Museum of Mar y de la Sal, which is called to be a cultural reference at a national and international level.
