Everything is ready so that this weekend the Pilgrimage of the Virgen del Rocío will be held again in the "José Eduardo Gil Rebollo" recreational area

The Councilor for Festivities of the City Council of Torrevieja, Concha Sala, and the president of the Brotherhood of the Virgen del Rocío, José María Alarcón, have announced the different acts that will be part of the new edition of the Pilgrimage of the Virgen del Rocío to be held in Torrevieja this coming weekend, July 2 and 3.

The Pilgrimage will begin this year in the Parish Church of the Virgen del Rosario in the district of Torrelamata on Saturday, after a mass that will begin at 11:00 a.m., officiated by the reverend, Francisco Miravete and sung by the choir of the brotherhood . At the end of the mass there will be a presentation before the image of the Virgen del Rocío of horsemen, carts, pilgrims and sympathizers.

After the presentation, the pilgrimage will begin through the streets of La Mata towards the "José Eduardo Gil Rebollo" Municipal Recreational Area, in the "Lo Albentosa" area. It is planned that around 1:00 p.m., in the parking lot of the Forest House of the Natural Park of Las Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja, the Angelus prayer and the enjoyment of a snack will take place. The arrival at the camp will be around 2:30 p.m., depositing the image of the Virgin in a tent where an offering of flowers and candles will take place.

In the afternoon there will be various performances by the Brotherhood choir, as well as activities, dance competitions for sevillanas and others. At twelve o'clock at night the prayer of the Holy Rosary will be held.

On Sunday, the drummer will perform the "awakening" of the camp followed by a breakfast based on chocolate with churros. At 1:00 p.m. a Campaign Mass will be celebrated and at 7:30 p.m. the collection of the camp will begin and the transfer of the image of the Virgen del Rocío to the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Torrelamata.

The president of the brotherhood, José María Alarcón, has had words of gratitude for the collaboration of the Department of Festivities, as well as the support and collaboration of the Torrevieja trade "which is essential to organize a pilgrimage like this."

This will be the first pilgrimage to be held since 2019, being suspended during the years 2020 and 2021, due to the regulations of the Covid-19 health pandemic.
