Ars Creatio and the MUDIC present a wide range of activities around the Mediterranean night of researchers

From September 16 to October 1, within the framework of the European MEDNIGHT project linked to the celebration of September 30, the official day of the European Researchers' Night, ARS CREATIO and the MUDIC offer guided tours, scientific workshops, talks, the show Barber's Science and a tribute to Torrevieja elite athletes

The coordinator of the activities of the MEDNIGHT in Torrevieja and director of Ars Creatio and researcher of the UMH, María Luisa Molina, Carlos Sánchez on behalf of the Interactive Didactic Museum of Sciences of the Vega Baja (MUDIC), Ricardo Recuero, Councilor for Education, and Diana Box, Councilor for Sports of the Torrevieja City Council, have presented the activities and programming for this year 2022.

On Friday, September 30, MEDNIGHT is celebrated, a joint action with Science as a common flag and in which Universities, dissemination centers and research centers from Greece, Cyprus, the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia participate. MEDNIGHT is held within the framework of the European Researchers' Night, a scientific dissemination project promoted and funded by the European Commission as part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon 2020 programme.

For this, Ars Creatio, with the collaboration of the MUDIC and the Torrevieja City Council, has designed 9 activities grouped into 3 events that will take place from Friday September 16 to October 1 in Torrevieja. Staff from the MUDIC and research staff from the centers and knowledge areas of the UMH participate in the activities.

Activities in Torrevieja

  1. The XIV Cycle of conferences Torrevieja and the Sea. It takes place over two days including a tribute to 4 elite athletes from Torrevieja related to the sea. This activity has been organized in coordination with the Department of Sports.

-Friday 16 at 8:00 pm at the CCVC: Tribute to elite athletes from Torrevieja and talk “Sports Sciences”, by Diego Pastor Campos, Professor of the UMH. The talk will discuss the virtues of sport in the memory and health of people, as well as the physics of sport to improve sports performance. Next, elite athletes from Torrevieja related to the sea will briefly recount their experience, such as Jesús Rogel and Ascensión Roca, in Sailing; Ander Martín and Adriana Castro, in Rowing. Free entry.

-Thursday 22nd at 8pm at the CCVC: Talk “Sediments from marine ports as a substrate for fruit trees”, by Pilar Legua Murcia, Professor at the UMH. It is a project financed by the EU with more than 1.7 million euros in which they manage to take advantage of the annoying and inefficient sediments that are usually dredged from the seabed of Spanish and European ports for use as a natural and ecological substrate in growth citrus and other agricultural fruit trees and ornamental plants. The Miguel Hernández University, technological institutes and companies from Spain and Italy participate in this project. Free entry.

  1. Guided tours and science workshops at the Natural History Museum. These activities will be carried out by MUDIC staff and have been organized in coordination with the Department of Education.

There will be a total of 6 sessions, 3 sessions for school groups and 3 sessions for the general public. The sessions consist of a guided tour of the Natural History Museum and, after a break, a science workshop. For school groups, they are offered by the Department of Education for the days V23, J29 and V30 of September from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And the sessions for the general public will be on September 24 and October 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on September 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The workshops will be "Let's take care of our seas", "Artemia and salt" and "King Plovers. A winged treasure”, and you can register now through the QR code on the poster.

3) Barber's Science concert, as the closing act of the MEDNIGHT in Torrevieja. Barber's Science is made up of 4 scientists between the ages of 24 and 38 who put on a show in which they masterfully mix humour, music and science. In 2021 they participated in Got Talent where they got a gold pass. Saturday, October 1, at the Palacio de la Música at 8:00 p.m. Free entry.

In addition, the MEDNIGHT project offers other activities to educational centers throughout Spain that they can carry out throughout this academic year and the beginning of the following year. The activities are: “Back to school for researchers”, “Mediterranean Faces Exhibition”, “Documentary Mednight: The ports of science”, and “The tales of the Mednight”.
