Every year, in Spain, dozens of women are murdered at the hands of their attackers. For this reason and for the celebration of 25N, World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Torrevieja City Council has organized different awareness actions that will take place from November 21 to 27.

These actions will be aimed at the entire population of Torrevieja, in order to involve them in the importance of ending this social scourge, including men in this fight against violence against women.

The first of the actions that is being carried out is the exhibition "It is not love, it is Gender Violence", which from yesterday until Sunday, November 27, is installed on Paseo Vista Alegre. This is a campaign focused on young people to raise awareness, inform and teach to detect the first signs of harassment, abuse or mistreatment, since the first signs of gender violence occur at a very early age. Signs that are imperceptible by the majority of society but that trigger mistreatment, abuse and gender violence.

On Thursday, November 24, in the morning, at the IES Torrevigía, the action “If it hits you, it doesn't hit you. Rap against Gender Violence”. An activity that will have the presence of two rappers who will teach the students to create, structure and sing a rap on issues related to violence against women. So that students can become aware and show their rejection of this form of violence, like future generations of our society.

On the other hand, the action "Do not look the other way" will be launched on November 24, very busy locations in the municipality of Torrevieja will be used, where various awareness-raising messages will be painted for the environment of the victim and the general public, so that the population can know how to report cases of violence against women or how to act in response to these events.

On Friday, November 25, coinciding with the reading of the manifesto, the action of "The steps they will never take" will take place in the Plaza de la Constitución, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. While the following day, on November 26, a repetition of this action will take place on the Paseo Marítimo de Juan Aparicio from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A pioneering campaign with great social impact in which a street marketing action will be shown at street level in which a tribute is paid to this year's victims, while the 25N Manifesto is read.

Finally, on December 6th, the last action will take place, a street marketing campaign called “Watch out for Red Flags”. The term Red Flag is used today, by youth, to refer to those warning signs of gender violence in current relationships. This campaign arises with the idea of making citizens aware of the importance of knowing the warning signs and behaviors that involve sexist violence.

Since 1999, every November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is celebrated officially at the UN. The main objective is to promote campaigns and awareness actions to face this problem, seeking the participation of the different sectors of society in order to eradicate gender violence.

From this point of view, the Torrevieja City Council does not want to be left out and advocates helping citizens to be aware of the problem. Violence against women is currently one of the most serious and deep-rooted problems in society, being one of the most widespread and devastating violations of human rights in the world and causing the death of thousands of women.

The discrimination, abuse, maltreatment and homicide that they suffer due to the most violent and inhuman inequality that exists between men and women, gender violence, constitutes an attack against the integrity, dignity and freedom of women.
