Course on Sephardic history and culture at the Permanent University of the UA in Torrevieja

This course aims to approach Jewish society during the Middle Ages in an informative and entertaining way, with the aim of understanding the background, preliminaries and contexts that characterized the historical and cultural evolution of the Sephardic community.

The Department of Education of the City Council of Torrevieja and the Headquarters of the University of Alicante in the town, again bring the courses of the Permanent University of the University of Alicante to Torrevieja.

On this occasion, the course "Sefarad and the Medieval Jews: traces and memory of a forgotten past " will be taught at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Center, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 17 to February 23, 2023, in the strip hours from 17:00 to 20:00 hours. The teaching staff is made up of Miriam Parra Villaescusa and Leonardo Soler (Department of Medieval History, Modern History and Historiographical Sciences and Techniques of the University of Alicante).

This course aims to provide an informative and entertaining approach to Jewish society during the Middle Ages, with the aim of understanding the background, preliminaries and contexts that characterized the historical and cultural evolution of the Sephardic community. A religious community whose presence marked a key moment in the history of the Iberian Peninsula. It will deal with a global perspective from the way of daily life and culture to gastronomy, trades, etc., which symbolize the rich legacy of Sepharad. A field trip to Lorca, a Sephardic reference point in the Iberian southeast, is included in the course as part of the course to live the knowledge acquired in a practical way.
