NEW PROFILES OF CONSUMERS AND TOURISTS

The improvement of connections and the Internet is favoring the appearance of new profiles of consumers and tourists of enormous interest for businesses and destinations. The so-called Digital Era has also made us change mentalities and beliefs about work, going from face-to-face to teleworking. Also COVID-19. Obviously, not all companies or profiles can adapt to these changes, but there is a freer and more independent conception of work that was unimaginable a few years ago. It is in this context of change that the digital nomad emerges.

A digital nomad is a professional who uses new technologies to work remotely. Workers who, thanks to the flexibility of their companies, seek a different lifestyle, not anchored to a stable workplace. Their professional profiles tend to coincide a lot with digital jobs related to cybersecurity, design, programming and other related specialties. Its popularization has led more and more countries to create specific visas for digital nomads in order to attract talent and new tourist/consumer profiles. In this sense, in Spain there is the draft Law for the Promotion of the Ecosystem of Emerging Companies, commonly known as the "Startups Law", which among other things tries to attract digital nomads. For tourist destinations and their companies it has also become a a segment of demand of enormous interest, especially for those who have a wide residential offer and a high seasonality, this is the case of residential tourist destinations.
