The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, before the declarations made in Alicante by the general director of Water of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, Teodoro Estrela, in which he announces the expansion of the Torrevieja desalination plant, with an investment of almost 62 million euros, has shown his surprise and discomfort at what he considers a lack of respect for the people of Torrevieja.
Eduardo Dolón has requested his dismissal due to the continuous breaches that the Ministry is having with Torrevieja, since for more than a decade (12 years) the projects that they promised to do, framed within the Territorial Restitution Plan -PRT, have not been executed. ´s- as compensation for the construction of the desalination plant.
The mayor has assured that both he and the residents of the Acequión and San Roque neighborhoods are fed up with so many unfulfilled promises, also seeing how the Paseo del Dique de Poniente is unfinished and cannot be used by the people of Torrevieja due to the lack of interest from the Government of Spain, which is the one that has the powers to execute it and has not complied with it for more than a decade.
In addition, Eduardo Dolón recalled that the state-owned company Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas (Acuamed), responsible for adjudicating and developing these investments, is committed to carrying out the projects for the Pedestrian Path from Los Náufragos to Lo Ferrís, and the redevelopment and Paseo del Acequión and adjacent roads. That is to say, there are three projects that have been blocked for 12 years and there seems to be no sign that they will be unlocked. The mayor himself met in August 2022 in Madrid with those responsible for Acuamed to try to unblock this unfair situation, and since then he has not heard from them despite their promises. At this meeting, the mayor made a commitment to those responsible for Acuamed that the Torrevieja City Council itself would assume the drafting of the completion project for the Paseo del Dique de Poniente, in order to help speed up, as far as possible, all and each one of the deadlines, with the purpose that the Government of Spain can make this walk available to all the people of Torrevieja and the thousands of tourists who visit us.
