The first accelerator for Local Energy Communities (CELs) will start operating in the coming days, with seven participating projects that have been selected in this initiative to promote collective self-consumption that involves and benefits society.

Among the selected initiatives there are two that come from civil society, from the neighborhood union that wants to promote an energy community in the Valencian municipalities of Sagunt and Almoines. The other five initiatives come from municipalities such as those of Alcoi, in Alicante, Senyera and Albaida in the province of Valencia, and Cortes de Arenoso and Onda in the province of Castellón.

The CELs accelerator is promoted by AVAESEN, with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture. Local Energy Communities have an important role in the energy transition of the Community. With a model of democratization in the production and consumption of energy that empowers citizens in three aspects: reducing the electricity bill, protecting themselves from price fluctuations while mitigating climate change.

The seven selected CELs will be advised and mentored by experts in different fields so that they can accelerate the process of starting an energy community from scratch. They are Juan Sacri, from Sapiens, Arturo Zea, from Valencia Clima i Energía, Emmanuel Silva from the Energy Transition Office, Paula Sánchez de León, from Smart to People, Ramón Gero, from Eiffage Energía Sistemas, Jordi Sarrió, from INEL, Ximo Masip, from ImpactE, Amparo Balbastre from Alfa Globla, and Mariola Guarinos and Sònia Valiente from AVAESEN.

There will be several sessions over the next few months with three thematic axes: motor groups and participation model; technical studies and permits; and financing, installation and management. In this way, once trained, they will have all the knowledge to develop their energy community.

* Local energy community (CEL): A local energy community (CEL) is a new model for the generation, use and management of energy at the local level, through cooperation between agents -citizens, administration and SMEs-, which contributes to create a decentralized, fair, efficient and collaborative energy system, based on the participation of the users themselves. In other words, it puts energy in the hands of citizens. The members of the CELs become, at the same time, producers, managers and users of clean and cheaper energy, through collective self-consumption facilities that are owned by the energy community.
