María José Ruiz explained that, based on the census of large waste producers in Torrevieja (bars and restaurants, hotels, etc.), a campaign has been carried out for all of them to inform them of the new door-to-door collection service for large waste producers. organic fraction.

After this campaign, large producers who wanted to join have been provided with a 120-liter brown bucket, which is used to deposit the organic waste generated in their establishment, as well as a kit of biocompostable bags for the cube. In these buckets you can place leftover fruit and vegetables, leftover meat and fish, eggshells, shellfish, nuts, leftover infusions and coffee grounds, as well as other food leftovers.

The type of waste to be deposited in the container, the days and times of collection at your establishment, has been transmitted through the delivery of a brochure with the information of this new service that aims to make recycling increasingly effective in the recycling sector. the hospitality industry.

The collection will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the morning (starting at 7:00 a.m.) and the establishments that have joined are restaurants and hotels in the city.

GLASS PACKAGING WASTE RECYCLING SERVICE

The mayor of Aseo Urbano also announced this morning the campaign aimed at local hospitality that has been started by Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of packaging waste in Spain.

From Ecovidrio, HORECA actions are developed to support hospitality venues, provide them with resources and encourage the recycling of glass containers, at no cost to the Torrevieja City Council or to hoteliers.

María José Ruiz recalled that the Comprehensive Waste Plan of the Valencian Community establishes for hospitality establishments the obligation to separate glass containers and deposit them in the corresponding containers.

In the first phase, all hospitality establishments are visited with environmental educators and they are given a letter of introduction signed by the City Council. Furthermore, on this first visit, a questionnaire is completed in which it is confirmed whether the premises is a recycler or not and whether it needs means to recycle. Once everyone has visited, buckets to separate the glass are given to the hoteliers who request it. In addition, the container park is reviewed, adapting them for easy emptying of glass and if there is a need for more containers on the street, they are placed with the authorization of the City Council itself.
