The European Police and Fire Games generate a direct impact of more than 2 million euros in Torrevieja

After 10 intense days of sports games with the celebration in Torrevieja of the IX European Police and Firefighters Games, this edition has closed with resounding success in terms of participation in all the tests carried out in our city.

The Sports Department of the Torrevieja City Council, together with the organizing entity of the games and the rest of the council departments involved, have been working throughout the year on the coordination of all the sports events that have been held on the occasion of this great European event. , which represented a challenge to be able to coordinate a total of 63 different sports modalities and Torrevieja was aware of the complexity of many of them.

The city of Torrevieja had a firm commitment to be able to host this sporting event which, in its ninth edition and in our city, has brought together more than 2,400 participants and has mobilized around 1,600 visitors and family members who have lived in Torrevieja for a few days. on vacation, enjoying the sports events of this competition.

A total of 63 sports modalities, many of which were carried out in the streets of Torrevieja, triathlon, cycling, running events that also involve the direct participation of the local society who, at some point, saw them passing through the streets. from the center these sporting events that did not leave anyone indifferent.

It was very easy to see in Torrevieja the participants dressed in the games' clothing and their families and followers in all the neighborhoods of the city. Many of them concentrated on a minimum stay of 4 nights, since they participated in different tests of the same modalities, but the vast majority of them extended their stay to a minimum of 7 nights.

The event has generated a great impact at all levels, given that the end of September and beginning of October always represents in Torrevieja a change of season and season with a drop in occupancy and, on this occasion, with the commitment of the City Council, Torrevieja has been the venue for these games, which have generated a direct impact of more than 18,000 overnight stays and an estimated economic impact of around 2 million euros in the city's shops and hospitality establishments, as well as in hotels and numerous tourist accommodations.

Finally, the Department of Sports values this event and the impact it has generated in the city very positively and maintains its commitment to sports tourism, to continue supporting and strengthening this growing tourism sector to help deseasonalize tourism.
