The Blood Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community, with the collaboration of the Public Health Department of the Torrevieja City Council, will hold its 20th edition of the Marathon next Sunday, January 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Blood Donation at the San Pascual Senior Citizens' Home.

The Councilor for Public Health, Rosa Cañón, together with Mabel Ortiz de Salazar, head of the Service of the Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community in Alicante, presented this blood donation marathon this morning, which began to be held in the year 2004, highlighting that Torrevieja is one of the most supportive and generous cities due to the large number of donors it has. In these XX editions there have been a total of 2,707 donations, of which 605 have been from donors who were making this very supportive gesture for the first time. Likewise, it is worth noting that in this year 2023, a total of 1,040 blood donations have been made in our city.

The province of Alicante needs 250 daily donations to cover the needs of its patients and thus cover oncological treatments, surgical interventions, births, accidents, etc. The requirements to donate blood are: to be between 18 and 65 years old, to be in good health, to weigh more than 50 kilos and not to come on an empty stomach. For any questions or more information, you can consult the website http://centro-transfusion.san.gva.es where all the daily donation points appear.
