Presented the 29th Torrevieja International Habaneras Youth Contest, which will be held on April 20

A “small” competition that was born in 1995 as a complement to the International Competition, is now “big” and an international reference for youth and children's choirs both inside and outside our borders.

The Habaneras Youth Competition enjoys magnificent choral health and is currently the showcase where new groups are presented as well as serves as a “thermometer” to evaluate the choral quality of the participating groups, having to assume a competition phase that has nothing to do with it. see with other non-competitive concerts that choirs have performed. All participants, from the moment they are selected, know that they face a unique challenge that will mark their future in their choir. They all want to show from the stage of our Municipal Theater that they have prepared themselves to have a place within of the choral world and where better than in Torrevieja

PARTICIPATION : For this year 2024, the Technical Commission of the Municipal Board of Habaneras has decided that five groups will be selected from a total of ten, highlighting the participation of two foreign choirs, specifically from the Philippines and Cuba.

Among the national choirs we have one from the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, specifically from Cáceres, one from the Autonomous Community of Madrid and another that comes from Andalusia.

Around 260 singers will gather in our city on April 20, to these we must add the singers of the Symphony Choir of the Municipal Choral School, directed by Selena Cancino Escobar.

Choirs in Competition Phase

• SCHOOL OF THE “HERMANOS BERZOSA” CONSERVATORY Cáceres, Extremadura.
• ENTREOLIVOS CHOIR , Dos Hermanas –Seville
• CANTORÍA SOLFA , CUBA
• LAS VEREDAS CHOIR , Madrid
• BAAO CHILDREN'S CHOIR , PHILIPPINES.

Once the competition phase is over, the Sinfonía Choir of the Municipal Choral School will perform, while the jury deliberates, with a repertoire mostly of habaneras. After the jury's deliberation, the Awards Ceremony and Closing of the 2nd 9th INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CONTEST OF HABANERAS will take place.

JURY : The Municipal Board of Habaneras, together with the Technical Commission of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest, has appointed as a jury for this 29th edition of the HABANERAS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CONTEST three big names on the current choral scene, in line with the qualitative and artistic works that the Youth Contest has acquired.

For this occasion , Mr. Jordi Blanch Tordera, Ms. Elisa Gómez and Mr. Mariano García Sánchez will be chosen to designate the decision of this 2024 International Youth Contest

MUST-HAVE HABANERA:

For this 29th edition of the HABANERAS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CONTEST, the must-play work will be: HABANERA DE SAL – Lyrics by Belén Puente and music by Antoni Mas.

PRIZES : The prizes for this 29th HABANERAS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CONTEST will be the following:

• First Prize: €3,000 and trophy
• Second Prize: €2,000 and trophy
• Third Prize: €1,000 and trophy .

TICKET SALES AND BOX OFFICE : Ticket sales for the concerts are now available at the price of €5.00.

The sale can be in person at the Municipal Theater box office, located on Plza. Finally, the estimated budget that includes infrastructure (lighting, sound, acoustic shell), accommodation for participating choirs, mileage for participating choirs, jury travel, jury allowances, personnel, prizes, etc., amounts to an approximate amount of 26,000 .00 euros for this 2024 edition.
