The Torrevieja City Council, through the departments of Public Health and Social Welfare, is resuming the "Walk Torrevieja" program this September, a free initiative aimed at the elderly of the municipality that combines physical exercise, emotional well-being, coexistence and social participation.

The health walks will begin this coming Friday, September 11, and will continue until December with a total of eight scheduled outings. All walks will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will meet at the headquarters of the Department of Social Welfare, located at 39 Torrevejenses Ausentes Street.

The activity is free for participants and aims to make physical exercise a simple, accessible, and shared part of daily life. To participate, simply arrive at the starting point on the scheduled dates, wearing comfortable clothing and shoes, and bringing water and sun protection.

“Camina Torrevieja” offers older people the opportunity to stay active, enjoy the urban environment and share the experience with other people, promoting the creation of bonds and combating situations of unwanted loneliness or social isolation.

EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING AND SOCIAL LIFE

The benefits of "Walking Torrevieja" are not limited to the physical realm. Going for a walk, being outdoors, and spending time with other people can contribute to improving mood, reducing stress, and reinforcing a sense of well-being.

The walks also offer a space for conversation, meeting other people, and expanding social networks. In this way, the program promotes community participation and helps prevent isolation and unwanted loneliness, especially among those who have fewer opportunities to connect with others in their daily lives.

The program is developed in collaboration with the Mental Health Care and Monitoring Service (SASEM), reinforcing a comprehensive view of health that takes into account physical, emotional and social well-being.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

Those interested should wear light, comfortable clothing and appropriate walking shoes. It is also recommended to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and to use sunscreen.

Before starting the activity, it's advisable to have a proper breakfast and adjust the pace to your individual physical condition. People with any illness, injury, or limitation that may affect their ability to exercise should follow the advice of their healthcare professionals.
