Alpe Center

The Colegio de Educación Especial Alpe is a school located in Torrevieja.

We educate students who present functional diversity associated with intellectual disability, which makes them require permanent support and specific educational attention throughout their schooling.

The students are divided into six educational units, attending to chronological and social criteria.

The age range is 3 to 21 years.

We have the following educational stages:

  • Infant in the age group from 3 to 6 years.
  • Compulsory Basic Education. Primary (from 6 to 12 years old) and Secondary (from 12 to 16 years old).
  • Transition to Adult Life (TVA), from 16 to 21 years old.

Its origin is mainly from the towns of Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and Guardamar, although we also have students from other nearby towns.

The school has been in agreement with the Ministry of Education, Research, Culture and Sports since 1992, without interruption and has transport and dining services, which are subsidized by said Ministry and whose ownership is responsible for the management of these services.

The Alpe Association was created in 1982, by a group of parents of children with functional diversity from Torrevieja in order to have a place where both their children, as well as any child who needed it, could receive care in an appropriate way.

For this reason, they went to the City Council, which immediately gave them the premises of the old Vocational Training School, located at 58 Apolo Street, where they began to work with 7 children and 3 professionals. Year after year, the place was adapted to the needs of those assisted there. Despite all this and the efforts of the City Council, which expanded the spaces dedicated to the school, it was completely insufficient and did not have the necessary characteristics for the proper care of children. Hence, the parents began a new struggle with a more ambitious but no less necessary objective: to obtain land for the construction of a New Center.
