The City Council will open a place to accommodate humanitarian aid for Ukraine

Representatives of 22 local NGOs have participated in a meeting convened by the Torrevieja City Council to coordinate the reception of humanitarian aid that is going to be sent to the Ukrainian people, who are suffering from the current armed conflict. The Councilor for NGOs and Volunteers, Concha Sala, together with the councilors of International Residents, Gitte Lund; of Citizen Participation, Inmaculada Montesinos and Social Welfare, Tomás Ballester, has announced that the City Council is going to provide a place in which the arrival of all the material that is delivered for this purpose will be centralized and that it will be attended by volunteers from the different NGOs ´s of Torrevieja.

All of them will collaborate with the Association of Ukrainians in Torrevieja, which has been carrying out this same work for several days at its headquarters on Calle Pedro Lorca, nº 138, where they are receiving donations. They are moving daily from Torrevieja to the Ukrainian border with Poland.

The secretary of the Association of Ukrainians of Torrevieja, Natalia Xhezhnyasvska, who has detailed that one of the most pressing needs is economic "for the acquisition of material they need in Ukraine" has been present at the meeting. For this they plan to open a bank account in the coming days that they will make public. He has also pointed out that the donation of canned food, clothing such as socks, blankets, sleeping bags and thermal clothing in general is necessary.

At the meeting the possibility of being able to attend to the reception in Torrevieja of refugees that may occur in the coming days has been considered and for this various options have been considered that will be outlined in the coming days.

The secretary of the Association of Ukrainians has also pointed out that in Torrevieja there have been an undetermined number of people from Ukraine who had moved to the city as visitors and who have been unable to return to their countries of origin.

In this sense, it has also become clear that it is a group that will also be served by the different solidarity actions that have begun.

The representatives of the City Council of Torrevieja, together with those of the local NGOs have shown their availability to undertake the work of coordinating humanitarian aid.
