The MOE has chosen Torrevieja to be the first city to carry out the act of swearing to the flag after the COVID-19 pandemic

The Councilor for Security and Emergencies of the City Council of Torrevieja, Federico Alarcón, together with the head of Communications of the MOE, Commander Alfonso Blas López, have presented this morning the act of Swearing the Flag for civil personnel that will be held next Saturday, May 21, at 12:00 pm, at Paseo Vista Alegre.

The oath or promise before the national flag is legally established in the Military Code as a prerequisite to acquiring professional military status. In order to allow Spaniards who, without wishing to join the Armed Forces in a professional capacity, to express their commitment to the defense of Spain by taking an oath or promise before the Spanish flag, a procedure has been established to carry out said service. This right is included in the Spanish Constitution (1978) in Title I of the fundamental rights and duties, second chapter Rights and Freedoms, section 2 of the rights and duties of citizens, article 30 point 1 “Spaniards have the right and the duty to defend Spain .”

In order to take the oath before the flag, interested persons should go to the Alicante Defense Subdelegation website, fill out the application together with a photocopy of their ID and send it to the email address moe@et.mde.es. Registration can also be done in person on the second floor of the Torrevieja Town Hall. The deadline for registration was today, Tuesday, May 10, 2022. This act is a measure to strengthen the bonds between citizens and their Armed Forces, making them closer to civilian personnel.

The event will begin at 12:00 noon at Paseo Vista Alegre with the honors given to the authorities present. After this, the review of the military units present there will be carried out. It will be the moment then that, the people who have registered, will take their oath to the national ensign. Once the swearing-in by civil personnel is over, it will be the turn of the GEMOE speech and subsequent act of homage to the fallen. The act will come to an end with the anthem of the MOE and Spirits, and the units dislocation. Once the act of swearing to the Flag is over, the Legion War Band will remain for approximately 30 minutes, entertaining the end of the acts. The Special Operations Command has chosen Torrevieja to be the first city to carry out the act of swearing to the flag after the COVID-19 pandemic.
