The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the deputy mayor and councilor for Commerce and Hospitality, Rosario Martínez, and the mayor of Traffic, Federico Alarcón, presented this morning the traffic study carried out for the entire area of influence of the future area of the port of Torrevieja.

A traffic study awarded to the company DESARROLLO, ORGANIZACIÓN Y MOBILIDAD, SA for an amount of 16,093 euros (VAT included), is going to reveal the layout of the access roads to the port that have been designed, both from the point of view of the private vehicles that would access the facilities of the leisure center and the hippy and fair area, as well as the operation of public transport, as well as the traffic flows of the current port facilities (fish market, Marina Salinas marina and Real Club Náutico Torrevieja ).

Eduardo Dolón has informed that this study proposes that the traffic entering the port may have quite acceptable circulation levels, since it proposes that the traffic enter the port of Torrevieja through two entry lanes through the Paseo Vistalegre and that it will also have a exit lane. Therefore, adds the mayor, the section of road in the road is increased, so the currently existing median will have to be refurbished. Likewise, at the intersection of San Policarpo street with Ramón Gallud, a roundabout is proposed to improve traffic flow. In addition, a large second roundabout of 32 meters in diameter is planned, right at the current confluence of María Parodi street with Avenida de la Libertad. This will be the traffic entry roundabout to the port through the new road that will be built and that will allow the articulation of incoming and outgoing flows from the port.

In this way, Avenida de la Libertad is pedestrianized in its entirety, proposing the pedestrianization of part of Rambla Juan Mateo street, and the possibility of extending said pedestrianization to other roads such as part of Pedro Lorca or Ramón street is being studied. and Cajal. All this, indicates the mayor, with reserves of service lanes for access to garages, supply to hotels and shops, guaranteeing the circulation of emergency vehicles.

Eduardo Dolón has highlighted the presence and importance of public transport in this area, which will have a bus stop right in front of the current entrance to the port, with a stop between the Casino de Torrevieja and Plaza Waldo Calero. In addition, it is expected that the section of María Parodi from the roundabout to Ramón Gallud street will change direction and be semi-pedestrianized, with circulation only by public transport. Likewise, a taxi rank would be established on the same María Parodi street, specifically in Plaza Castelar, which will be remodeled.

PARTICIPATION OF NEIGHBORS, HOSTELERS AND MERCHANTS AND THE AREA

The mayor has informed that the intention of the Popular Party Government team is to make all this information known to residents, shopkeepers and hoteliers in the area, since, based on this traffic study, they will proceed to commission the drafting of the Urbanization Project, which will contemplate the definitive road solution. For this reason, adds Eduardo Dolón, "we make ourselves available to citizens so that they can send us the suggestions and contributions they deem appropriate".

In this regard, the mayor has given as an example that the Paseo Vista Alegre has the capacity to take on three lanes, which will be two entrances (one for the port and the other for the city) and one exit, with connection to the Patricio Pérez crossroads, Clemente Gosálvez, Azorín and Chapaprieta. In the design of the avenue of the promenade, the study proposes that it be without a median, although the City Council prefers that a median remain, respecting the alignment of palm trees.

Another question, added Eduardo Dolón, is to determine the extent of the semi-pedestrianization of the surroundings of Paseo de la Libertad, (Rambla Juan Mateo, Ramón y Cajal, María Parodi and Pedro Lorca among others).

Once all these questions have been clarified, the solution will be defined in the urbanization project, which will allow the works to start.

The first municipal authority has declared that, if all goes well and the corresponding authorizations are obtained from the Generalitat Valenciana, the works on the new port entrance roundabout will begin before the end of the year, once the Maritime Captaincy buildings have been demolished. and Port Administration. In this way, it will be possible to connect the roundabout with the new central road of the port, whose works are carried out by the concessionaire of the works of the Leisure Center.

Finally, the mayor has also reported that this morning he has had a meeting with the hoteliers in the area to report on all these aspects, and that this afternoon he has held a new briefing with residents and merchants in the area.
