The Councilor for Quality of Urban Services of the Torrevieja City Council, Sandra Sánchez, reports that work has begun to improve pedestrian routes and accessibility in different areas of the city and throughout the municipal area.

Sandra Sánchez indicates that a month ago numerous works began progressively that have been the result, on the one hand, of the review carried out by the Infrastructure, Works and Services Area through a PREVENTIVE PROGRAM FOR MAINTENANCE AND CONSERVATION OF PEDESTRIAN ITINERARIES and, on the other hand, various requests from citizens that to date had not been able to be met because they were actions of a certain magnitude.

The purpose of the program created to review the status of the itineraries was to detect damage and repair as appropriate, in order to be able to carry out preventive maintenance on sidewalks, walkways, pedestrian areas, etc., in the city .

Sandra Sánchez has pointed out that according to the legislation in the Valencian Community, PEDESTRIAN ITINERARY is understood as "the area or space of passage intended for pedestrian traffic, or mixed traffic of pedestrians and vehicles whose route allows access to spaces for public use and buildings of the environment”. In this sense, the councilor for Quality of Urban Services highlighted the difficulty involved in fords, recesses and projections on sidewalks to facilitate vehicle access to fords and that they are inconvenient for pedestrians, with no other alternative than to share transit spaces. This difficulty is what led us to identify the cases in which a ford had been left unused and, therefore, to proceed progressively with the elimination of recesses and projections, thus returning the sidewalks to their original state, improving pedestrian traffic. .

Another of the circumstances detected in the revisions was that of sidewalks not executed or without the definitive finish on lots that were left unbuilt, resulting in a discontinuous itinerary and with large

accessibility problems. Sections of pavement in poor condition that required complete replacement of the pavement have also been included in the program.

The works executed to date are those located on Avenida Delfina Viudes, Calle Chiva, Zoa, San Pascual, Yeste, Clemente Gosálvez with Calle Tomillo, Joaquín Chapaprieta, Heraclio and Patricio Pérez.

The following works are in progress: Calle del Mar with Calle Concordia, Calle Tomillo with Avda. Cortes Valencianas, Calle Azorín, Rambla Juan Mateo and Avenida Gregorio Marañón.

And as for the works that are going to start soon, they will be those located in Calle Urbano Arregui, Bergantín, Gabriel Miró, Fray Luis de León, Ariadna, Afrodita, Avenida Torreblanca, Calle Inglaterra, San Miguel de Salinas, Joven Pura, Marconi , Geranios, Concordia, Iradier, Caballero de Rodas, Tirso de Molina with Gabriela Mistral Street, Ramón Freixa Street, Dr. Waksman with Echegaray Street, Suecia Street and public sidewalks of the Lago Jardín 2 Urbanization.

The works for the improvement of the pedestrian itineraries and accessibility were initiated by the mercantile Pastor Medina, through a contract for the repair of various sidewalks and for the restoration of fords. Currently, we must add to all these actions, those that the company Orthem, awarded and responsible for the conservation and maintenance of public roads, has initiated in recent days.

Sandra Sánchez concluded by saying that these works will mark the beginning of a very important change for all citizens, especially for people with different abilities and mobility problems.
