The mayor has indicated that he hopes that before the beginning of next summer the main actions will be completely executed, in order to offer an optimal service to the thousands of tourists and residents who enjoy this walk on La Mata beach.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure and Urban Management, Sandra Sánchez, the Councilor for Beaches, Antonio Vidal, and representatives of the winning company ORTHEM-ABALA TORREVIEJA, have visited the repair works of the Pedestrian Path of La Mata, which began yesterday, and which has an award amount of €3,929,612.38 (VAT included), having applied a 10% reduction to the tender price. The execution period for these long-awaited works is one year and work will be carried out on a total area of 1,317 linear meters.

The scope of development of the works to be undertaken includes the discontinuous surface of occupation of the existing promenade between the limit of the municipal terms of Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura, up to the delimitation between the Molino del Agua Park and Sector P-4, Molino White.

The action is not continuous and is divided into three sections:

*NORTH SECTION, between the northern limit of the municipal area and Plaza Encarnación Puchol, having a length of 306.25 linear meters.

*CENTRAL SECTION, between the south of Plaza de Encarnación Puchol and Avenida de Los Europeans, and has a length of 658.85 linear meters.

*SOUTH SECTION, is located entirely in the Molino del Agua Park, having a length of 352 linear meters.

The Councilor for Infrastructure and Urban Management has reported that with the execution of these works it is intended to carry out the comprehensive repair of the pedestrian path in the northern and central sections, originally built with wooden flooring, and the specific and superficial repair of the pavement of the South Zone. Likewise, it is intended to renew the public lighting in the three sections with models with LED technology.

After numerous meetings and different proposals addressed to the Coasts, the Torrevieja City Council has obtained definitive authorization to practically maintain the existing route, except in four points expressly indicated in the reports of the Provincial Coastal Service, in which it requires moving to an easement area. of transit part of the original path and also drinking water and sanitation services, as it is currently occupying the Public Maritime Terrestrial Domain (DPMT).

As for the construction solution, the current path will be renewed with another “wooden” appearance, ecological and removable, thus reducing maintenance and obtaining greater durability. The pavement will be made of technological wood with three structural typologies, the first with a distance between the axes of the piles of 2.20 meters, the second with a distance between the axes of 1.90 meters and the third typology a horizontal structure supported directly on the sand. The solution in all three cases consists of creating a rigid platform made up of modules 3 meters wide and 2.90 meters long.

The solution adopted in the work guarantees sustainability and recycling, given that raw materials are used in the production and supply of the material, combining 70% recycled pine wood products with 30% high-density polyethylene, which contributes to reducing forest clearing and CO2 emissions.

Another unique action contained in the works is the demolition in the southern section of a walkway originally built in printed concrete, which is replaced by a wooden walkway with an approximate length of 120 meters, to better adapt to the environment of the Natural Park.

The works started yesterday in the central section, specifically on Avenida de Los Europeans and will advance towards La Plaza Encarnación Puchol, so as not to affect on these dates the businesses with terraces that are still taking advantage of the good weather.

Finally, the expected period for the execution of all the works is one year, although the mayor of Torrevieja has reported that the City Council is considering the option of carrying out partial receptions of the works, to open the sections that are being executed. Furthermore, Eduardo Dolón has indicated that he hopes that before the beginning of next summer the main actions will be completely executed, in order to offer an optimal quality service to the thousands of tourists and residents who enjoy this walk on La Mata beach.
