The Local Police of Torrevieja participates in the DGT study on the prevalence of alcohol and drug consumption in vehicle drivers

The study, called EDAP 2024, will be carried out from today, Tuesday, May 7, to June 2, 2024, and consists of carrying out a total of 16 random alcohol and drug tests on drivers during this period of time. Results of the controls will be sent to the General Directorate of Traffic for analysis of the data collected and thus be able to draw conclusions about the prevalence of alcohol and drug consumption while driving in our country.

The Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Federico Alarcón, reports that the Torrevieja Local Police participates in the study of the General Directorate of Traffic on the prevalence of alcohol and drug consumption, narcotics and psychoactive substances in vehicle drivers.

The study, called EDAP 2024, will be carried out from today, Tuesday, May 7, to June 2, 2024, and consists of carrying out a total of 16 random alcohol and drug tests on drivers over 4 weeks. In each control, detection tests for these substances are carried out on 8 drivers individually, so the total number of tests that will be carried out by the Torrevieja Local Police throughout the campaign will be 128 alcohol tests and another 128 drug tests. During the practice of the tests, a vehicle count will also be carried out to gauge the control point.

To carry out the aforementioned controls, the General Directorate of Traffic has transferred to the Local Police of Torrevieja all the necessary material (drug test and drug kits, breathalyzer, mouthpieces, refrigerators and kits for sending to the laboratory, etc.).

The Local Police already participated successfully in 3 previous editions of said study held in 2015, 2018 and 2021, thereby contributing to the prevention of traffic accidents as a result of the consumption of said substances and promoting collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic. in a campaign in which only 15 other local police officers from all over Spain participate.

The results of the controls will be sent to the General Directorate of Traffic for analysis of the data collected and thus be able to draw conclusions about the prevalence of alcohol and drug consumption while driving in our country.
