The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that if the planned deadlines are met, the works will be completed in February/March 2027. The contract will be awarded through an open procedure, evaluating both the offered fee and the quality of the investment, operation, and management project, as well as the proven experience in managing markets or similar facilities. The concession is granted for a period of 10 years, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. The City Council is allocating €150,000 in aid to the merchants of the Mercado de Abastos (Central Market) affected by the works.
